PARiS

Physical Activity Referral in Stockport (PARiS) is Stockport's GP Exercise Referral scheme, designed to help patients with moderate medical conditions become and stay more physically active.

A joint partnership between Stockport Sports Trust & NHS Stockport, the scheme is delivered by a strong and experienced team of health and exercise professionals, who provide guidance, support and pathways towards health improvement.

Research has shown that becoming more physically active can benefit you and the management of your medical condition.

Do you have diabetes, COPD, stable angina or a high risk of developing cardio-vascular disease?

Have you had a heart attack, angioplasty, coronary artery bypass graft or stroke?

Do you suffer from anxiety, depression or joint pain?

If you answered ‘YES’ to any of the above, ask your doctor or nurse about the PARiS scheme.

PARiSHome Activity Guide

Stockport's Home Activity Guide provides simple and effective exercises (for all levels of ability), focusing on developing functional fitness to improve quality of life, e.g. shoulder mobility exercises (to make reaching for a can of beans from the cupboard easier) and stability exercises (to prevent falls).

It includes a range of progressive physical activities that can be done in the home, with 3 levels: Beginner (chair based), Beginner+ (chair based with more resistance) & Intermediate (standiing exercises).

Anyone wishing to begin using the guide should attend a one off masterclass where they will receive a copy of the guide.  The workshop is intended to ensure you are exercising safely and are given the motivation to start and adhere to the programme.

The next Home Activity Masterclass is due to take place at Target Life Lapwing (Community Room), Lapwing Lane, Brinnington, Stockport, SK5 8LF on Wednesday 18th August at 10.30am. For more information contact Avril Jackson on 0161 947 4364.
